NCER Regional Labout Market Strategy

Workforce development is a major issue for not only the NCER business community but for Saskatchewan in general. THe NCER and its partners developed a regional labour market strategy in an effort to address regional labour market issues over the next several years. Three core strategies were revealed in addressing the labour market requirements in this region, which were:

1. Increase the participation rates of underrepresented groups, notably Aboriginal people, in order to expand the size of the North Central Enterprise Region labour pool population.

2. Increase the number of people moving to the region from other parts of Canada.

3. Attract new immigrants to the region from other countries.

Barriers to Aboriginal Employment

A workforce that reflects our provincial working age population of Aboriginal people, persons with a disability, visible minority members and women, in all classifications and at all levels of an organization.

In the ideal workplace, employees are hired and promoted based on their skills and abilities and without regard to ancestry or perceived race. Their workplace environment is free of harassment.

However, this is not the reality in many work places. To achieve the ideal requires many initiatives to overcome issues, view the presentation to read more!
